La obra de Clara S. Prous, lejos de plasmar la cotidianidad de un folclore concreto, refleja una suerte de costumbrismo abstracto, atemporal y situado en un amplio espacio de la cultura occidental. Las distintas escenas reproducidas quedan enlazadas a nivel formal por el carácter deforme de los personajes representados y por la atmósfera melancólica que evoca el espectro cromático pasteloso. Como resultado, esta serie de retratos proporciona una distancia irónica frente al ensalzamiento romántico costumbrista.
